During my journey to acceptance to Optometry school, I would obsessively scroll through and read all the posts dating back to 2006 about how I could achieve this feat. I wanted to share my experience and timeline.

Weird Personal Statement Format

Applying in October?

Is it too late to apply in October? I can't apply before October because my letters of rec won't be ready and because of financial reasons.
I'm taking the OAT on October 23rd and I'll submit my OPTOMCAS the same day so they will probably get my scores by mid-late November.
GPA is 3.4, a lot of shadowing/work experience with optometrists.
I'm applying to SCCO, SCO in Tennessee, IU, AZCOPT, NOVA, Houston.

Hi,

I applied to SCO recently. I got an email from SCO saying my OAT was low and that they wanted me to retake it. However, I received interviews from UAB, ICO, and NOVA. Is there a chance I could get into SCO with my stats?
Here are my stats:

What Should I Do Until Summer '18?

Hi! I am a rising Junior at Nova Southeastern University and I really want to go to their optometry school (Only one in FL!)
I want to make myself a competitive applicant since they only can take 100 people, but with a 2.9GPA, it's kinda hard .
I had over 100hrs of shadowing an Optometrist in high school and I'm actually a Certified Para-optometric assistant (so I can work at an optometry clinic if I have time). I'd also done my senior year research in something optometry-related, and NSU...

Can I submit Optomcas without designating references?

Can I submit my application without designating references then add them later (by october)? I won't be able to communicate with my references til October and I don't want to wait until then to submit my application. I'm also taking the OAT late october so they will have my scores and letters of rec by November, but I would like to submit my application this month if possible. Thoughts?

ICO Interview

I have an interview coming up at ICO. I've heard that ICO will question your OAT or grades if they are low. Do you think they'll question me on my stats? But I do have an explanation for everything. However, I just want your opinions.

Gap year and taking the OAT

Hi!

I am going to graduate Spring of 2018 and I'm still undecided as to if I am going to take a gap year before applying to optometry schools. Additionally, I'm currently preparing to take the OAT during Fall 2017. My question is, would optometry schools accept this OAT score if I did decide to take a gap year, or is that too much time between taking the OAT and applying for the 2019 school year?

Acceptance Question

so I read somewhere that once you get notified of your acceptance you generally have 2 weeks to accept or decline... can anyone confirm this? (especially for NOVA)... if this were the case, all of your interviews would have to be scheduled within a shorter time frame of each other to be able to see all of the schools before you have to respond to one of the earlier ones you visited, but I see some people had their interviews scheduled with a lot more time in between

Biochemistry Class Requirement

Hello! I'm applying this 2017-2018 cycle but I still need to finish a biochemistry class for some schools I am applying to. I currently work full time at an eye clinic, which prevents me from taking them at a local university or community college due to my work hours.

My top choice school listed two online courses that I can take to fulfill the requirement: one from UC Berkeley and one from UNE. But many reviews say negative things about these courses.

I was very involved in an LGBT+ organization on-campus, I did 200+ hours of community service and volunteering, should I mention it as part of my extracurricular activities? Some of the schools I'm applying to are very conservative and I don't really wanna jeopardize my chance of getting accepted because of this

I'm currently studying for the OAT and I'm taking it in October. I'm constantly scoring high (350+) on every section except physics, my score is always below 300 and I feel like I understand the concepts but I don't know how to answer the questions, if that makes sense. I'm using the big kaplan book and oat destroyer. How did you study for this section? any tips?

Hi everyone,

So I'm taking my OAT exam in 5 weeks, and have been primarily using Chad's videos/quizzes, the fat Kaplan Strategies book, and Kaplan MCAT Biology review for preparation. I had three questions regarding to preparation:

1. Does anyone know how Chad's questions compare to the real OAT? Are they more difficult/less difficult? I really enjoy his website and found it to be central to my studying. After weeks of repetition I'm starting to do significantly better on them, but I hope...

Hey Guys!

I just had my interview today at NOVA. Here's my experience:

The interview will take place in the Terry administration building. Everyone got lost due to some reason. The interview is in a small room in the admissions and financial aid office.

Check in begins at 7:30 am. First, is the actual interview. You will be interviewed by 2 doctors. They asked questions like "if you caught someone cheating, what would you do, why Optometry, why Nova, how was your shadowing experience,...
