Hey yall,

So I have been studying vigorously for the OAT. And I know where my weaknesses are. I was wondering if yall who took the test would give me suggestions on how I could tweak my studying. My current method is by studying material on the practice tests, then creating flash cards of all the questions with the answers on the back. Hi,

I'm currently scheduled to take the OAT in about 3 weeks; but do not feel too confident about it. I took a practice exam today & scored a 300 AA. However, my goal score for the actual OAT is around a 350. I was wondering, in anyone's opinion, is 3 weeks enough time to bring up my score to a 350? I know what my weaknesses are, but I'm just afraid that I won't have enough time to finish studying as I would like to. I thought about rescheduling it, but the next available test date isn't...

His LOR is the very last thing I need for my application to be finalized. I asked him back in May if he would be willing to write my LOR for this cycle, and he was definitely willing. How are transcripts matched to the academic information you enter into the application? I see transcript request forums, but is it the applicant's job to reach out to our university or will the application service do that? I'm wondering if this is even a necessary step for applicants to worry about or is it more of an automatic thing. Thanks!

I am a Biology Major. I am planning on taking the OATS soon. I have a 3.53 overall GPA and 3.2 Science GPA. I did a lot of shadowing this year.

My weak point is that I have 3 C's in science classes (mistakes as a freshman and sophomore) but turned things around junior and senior year.

Based on these exact stats can anyone tell me if I can get into SUNY Optometry? I really really really want to become an optometrist and will have no problem explaining my knowledge and passion...

Hi!

I'm a student from the Netherlands and almost graduating as an Optometrist and Orthoptist (I did a double bachelor for both studies). I'm very interested in the USA, but I know it is impossible to work als an Optometrist over there. Were not a doctor of Optometry in the Netherlands, so we can't prescribe medicines.. We only use Phenylephrine, Oxybuprocaïne, Cyclopentolate, Atropine and Tropicamide for research purpose.

Does anyone know a University with a short International student...

I was wondering if I could get some opinions.
Listed below are my recent OAT scores.

Over 4 years of optical experience.
Many extracurricular activities.

Do any applicants have advice. I am willing to retake the OAT, but is there any chance I can get into schools with those scores?

Hello, I've been recently admitted to an OD program and I'm really passionate about Public health also. Has anyone been able to do an online MPH or something like that while in OD school? I know a few schools have OD/MPH dual programs but I am not attending one of those schools :/

Hey all!
I'm looking throughout the thread and it looks like a lot of people have submitted their applications for this cycle already. I have been on vacation for the past 3 weeks, and I will be able to submit my application at least by August 30. I am wondering if that's too late? Will I even still have a shot at getting an interview if I am submitting it that late compared to everyone else?

So I just took my OAT and I did poorly. My AA was a 290. Obviously I plan on retaking it as soon as possible. My question is, should I submit my application indicating that I plan to retake it? Or should I wait until I retake it to submit. I ask since because of the 90 day waiting period it would November until I could retake it.

Has anyone ever worked or volunteered at an optometry office or a Lenscrafters or Visionworks? I am trying to get a job or even volunteer hours at an optometry office before I go off to optometry school and I would love to hear other people's experiences and how you did that. Hi, I have heard that admissions reps look to see that you shadow a variety of optometrists.

What are all the possible types of places we can shadow? And what are admissions looking for?

So far I only know of private practices and retail practices.

Alright guys, this forum was incredibly helpful to me when I was preparing for my applications and OAT and everything, I thought I could write a couple paragraphs about my experience to give back. Hello! My first post here, and I need some guidance.. I am going to give you cliff notes of my story:

Major: Cell and Molecular Biology
Overall GPA: 2.3 (I know, it's low - read on)
Expecting GPA when graduating: 2.4
Science GPA: 3.1 (perquisite science GPA)

How are you logging your shadowing through OptomCAS? Also, what other experiences are relevant to include in the "Experiences" section? Is this strictly eye care related, or can it be other extracurricular activities (such as student orgs, being a tutor, etc)? Is it appropriate to upload your resume to the system? Thanks!

I plan on applying this summer for admission in Fall 2018. I shadowed for a total of 16 hours last summer (2 days each at two different private practices). What are your experiences in getting a letter of recommendation from an optometrist? Is is bad to ask for a letter if I'm not working at the office and only shadow a couple times? I'm returning to the same office as last summer, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the letter. Any comments/thoughts are appreciated!
