What are my chances for NOVA for upcoming cycle? 3.2 OVR GPA and 3.0 SCI GPA

Hi Guys, I joined this forum a year ago but was hesitant to make any posts. I am applying to optometry school for this upcoming cycle. My overall GPA is 3.2 and science GPA is 3.0. I am currently studying for OAT and will take it in August. I also have an upward grade trend for the past five semesters. I just graduated with my BS in biology and am trying to shadow an optometrist at the moment. MY EC's include volunteering at a hospital and food bank, guitar teacher, musician at college...

What are my chances for NOVA for upcoming cycle? 3.2 OVR GPA and 3.0 SCI GPA

Does anybody know what the cost of submitting an additional program is after you have already submitted initially? Like is it an additional $170 or just the same as adding a school for $70?

Hi guys,

I would like your advice, please? I graduated in 2017 with cGPA of 2.9 and sGPA 2.5 in Biology major. I haven't taken OAT yet. Right now, I am currently in DIY-postbacc to take more science classes. I got 2 As so far.

What are my chances for Optometry school? What else I could do to be more competitive for the next cycle?

I currently attend UNLV and I am going to be taking a trip down to SoCal for a weekend in July. I was planning on attending SCCO's Summer Admissions Workshop during that time, but they actually moved the date of the workshop to the following weekend, and that is when I start my summer session class. I already requested the days off from work to go down to Cali, so I contacted SCCO's admissions office to schedule a campus tour and also an advising session with Dr. Monroe.

So I am searching...

OAT, GPA, competitiveness

I just took the OAT and did worse than I expected. I scored a 310 TS and 310 AA with zero sections below 300. My cGPA is around a 3.45, sGPA 3.1. I have pretty good extracurricular activities including many different clubs/organizations (some of which I have held leadership positions), 100 hours of volunteering, and 40 hours shadowing at 3 different practices. Hopefully my application is submitted before August.

Please tell me my chances of getting into the following schools: OSU, IU, PCO....

I recently visited NECO and met with an admissions representative there who mentioned that NECO begins interviewing students in the beginning of September. So, I was wondering, since interviews do not start until then, obviously no seats could be filled yet. In terms of rolling admissions then, I was thinking, does it not make a huge difference then if you submit your application in July vs submitting it in August? Because technically the person who submitted in July would not have taken a...

Does anyone know if we are allowed to mention specific interactions between optometrists & patients that we observed during shadowing in our essays? Specifically, are we allowed to quote patients? I have a lot of quotes that patients said during the time that I shadowed that I want to incorporate into my essay, but I wasn't sure if this was allowed or not. I obviously was not going to include any personal or specific details about the patient, just things like, "when I was shadowing ____,...

I only see optional TOFFLE score to add on Academic History -> Standardized Tests tap. Where do I log the OAT score?

On the Achievements tap, what should I add? I didn't really earned anything but a first place on math competition when I was high school.. which was about 10 years ago. I guess I'll opt this out?

For Experiences, should I add everything? or just major ones like my actual career line, volunteer.. I mean if I add some church volunteer work, it will be countless.. Not sure what...

Hi.

Is there anyone who has turned in an OptomCAS after dismissal from a previous OD program?

I'm not sure where to post this thread, as to whom it may apply to or where to find an ounce of hope that this may not be the end of the road for my Optometric ambitions. I was a 3rd year student (for privacy purposes, I will not post the institution) and had learned all the skills necessary to be a pretty decent Optometric Clinician and was less than a year from steering home clear into...

Hey guys, So I just took my OAT and already applied to NOVA, NECO ,SUNY, PCO. ( just had my SUNY Interview and have interview invites from all except NOVA at the moment)...what are my chances of getting into any of these schools with the following OAT scores...I know I'm a super late applicant
QR: 310 (ran out of time)
Reading Comp: 340
Biology: 350
Gen Chem: 370
Organic chem: 360
physics 300 (totally sucked in this section I know)
Total science: 350
Academic Average: 340

Ease of getting into optometry school

Why is it so easy to get into optometry school? The gpa requirements are pathetic, most schools entering classes have gpas from 3.0-3.4. The OAT is even more pathetic, I'm surprised that there are people who manage to score below 350 on it, let alone those that barely manage 300. How do these people even manage to continue through optometry school and become optometrists after?

Compare this to any other profession, medicine and dentistry, heck even pharmacy all have much tougher...

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working on the prerequisites for optometry and researching schools in the United States. My average is about a 75% (how do I convert that to gpa?) and I was wondering if there are schools that would accept me? It seems that most schools require that you have a grade of C or better in each prerequisite, which I do not. Is it still possible to get into an optometry school if I have a couple classes that are in the 60-65% range? Or do those classes ruin my chances?...

Hi there everyone!

I had an uneasy first year and I just didn't do well in my major classes. I got a B in PSY 103, intro to psych, a b- into gen chem lab I, a c in gen chem 1 and calc A. For my second semester, I got a c in gen chem lab 2, a c in gen chem 2, a pass ( as in fail 0ption) for calc 2, a d for intro to bio. Hello!

Im scheduled to graduate May 2016 majoring in chemistry and minor in biology. Unfortunately my expected GPA when graduating will be 2.4. Im currently looking into research at school and thats about the only activity I have. I need advice on other activities/clubs to join and what optometry schools that would look at my application. I know my chances are low but I'm trying to give it everything I have. Any advice?
