Should I Report Old OAT Scores

I took the OAT in April of 2016 and had it sent to a few schools. I had started filling out the OptomCAS application but never submitted it. I decided to take a year off due to some personal reasons. My problem is that I am going to be taking the OAT again because my first score wasn't that great. On the 2017-2018 application do I need to self report my old scores? Also I know several schools ask if I'm reapplying to their programs. How should I go about responding to that? Technically I...

Applying Late to Optometry School

Hi friends.
So. I just submitted my applications to Western, SCCO, NECO, AZCOPT, MCPHS, and PCO last night. I'm incredibly anxious on account of I know most schools have rolling admissions and it is pretty late in the cycle. I will graduate from a UC this spring, so I'm hoping I will get in and not have to take a year off. I am looking for honest opinions. Do you think I have a shot at getting in to any of these schools at this point in the cycle?

SCO Observation Hours

I'm interested in applying to Southern College of Optometry and noticed they have an optical section on Optomcas to upload documents with observation hours. Does it affect you negatively if you don't upload this? Also if anyone has a sample of what their shadowing documentation looks like please let me know!

Applying for more than 5 schools

Hi all,

I am in the process of applying in the next cycle of admissions and noticed a question in one of the applications and it asks what other schools I'm applying to. Is there any impact on my chances in getting into that school if I'm applying to 8? The reason is due to my cumulative gpa which is not the greatest (2.9) and will take my OAT August 1st. I'm only concerned on why it asks that and how to answer that I guess lol.

Hi,

I am applying to SUNY, NECO, PCO, MCPHS, and Nova this summer and was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the rankings of these schools. I've read a lot about how ASCO does not advise that students make their admissions decisions based on rankings, since there is not really an "official ranking" of optometry schools. However, I was wondering if anyone had any opinions as to which schools are better than the others.

Mid-Atlantic Region Starting Salary

Hey guys, talked to a recent Optometry Grad and she claimed starting salaries in the Mid-Atlantic region were anywhere from 120 to 130k. I am coming down to a decision between dentistry, podiatry, and optometry and was wondering if anyone in that region can back her up on that claim?

- I understand almost every other post on this forum turns into a "choose dentistry forum" but I just wanted to see if anyone in the Mid-Atlantic region will agree with or refute her remarks?

OptomCAS Transcripts

Did anyone else have a transcript sent out yet that has arrived to Optomcas? I had one sent to Optomcas and one sent to my house on the same day. I received the one in my mail two days later, and was assuming the status on Optomcas would have changed as it should have been received by now too. Are they going to start checking at a later date or should I follow up about it?

Considering optometry or med-school as an aerospace engineer

Hello. I am seriously considering med school or optometry but I am looking for advice and others in a similar situation. I currently work at NASA, I have an aerospace engineering degree from the University of Texas. My GPA was not the best, 3.1.

The day before I was to go to college in 2009 I found out that I had trigeminal schwannoma. I withdrew from college, had two surgeries to remove the tumor, and returned to college the next semester....

Application confusion

Hello,

I was completely thrown off about the application timeline. I just graduated this past May and was thinking about taking a year off to get my finances together to pay for optometry school. But I had to retake a course and was told I had to take anatomy before I could apply. The cycle has started but I am currently retaking my course (which ends in August) and planning to take anatomy this fall. I have also yet to take the OATs, which I intended to take before 2018.

Just doing my OptomCAS application for the 2018 cycle and I am not seeing where we input our OAT scores. Under the standardized tests, its only asking for TOEFL

Submit Resume to OptomCAS?/ Extracurriculars

Hi!

Does anyone know if it is recommended that we submit a resume onto OptomCAS?
I was wondering if a resume is not submitted, how the schools we are applying to will know about our extracurriculars (clubs, etc), as I have not seen a section on OptomCAS that specifically asks for this information.

Optomcas GPA different?

So schools have different criteria. Some look at overall while some look at science. Or overall+ prerequisite. There is no prerequisite gpa listed on optomcas. But my overall was calculated to be 3.17 and my science gpa even lower :/ These are including classes that were not for my major at a community college. But will most schools look at the overall gpa listed on optomcas?

Hello,

I'm going into my second year as a Microbiology Student. I have a 3.82 overall GPA and 3.76 Science GPA.

In extracurriculars, I have been a teaching assistant for 3 semesters for Intro to Chemistry (CHM1025), interned at a Public health organization (Control Flu) that vaccinates public schools, and I have been working at CVS as a pharmacy technician since high school.

At my school I have yet to run into any other Pre-Optometry students so it has been hard for me to grasp what...

When listing my extracurricular, it won't allow me to save and continue unless I select either compensated, received academic enrichment or volunteer. It is none of these, it's just extracurricular.

Transcripts/LOR Question

I have already completed my OptomCAS application, ordered for my transcripts to be sent, and submitted the names and emails for my LORs. Can I submit my application before OptomCAS receives copies of the transcripts and LORs, or should I wait until they receive them? I saw some questions on other boards about this, but there were no answers.
