Hello!
I have set my sights on becoming an optometrist for a while now. I am currently finishing my 2nd semester as a sophomore at UCBerkeley. I am also a part-time receptionist at an optometry clinic nearby and I have been working there for roughly half a year now. Coincidentally, the doctors who work at that clinic also teach at the Berkeley school of Optometry.

I feel incredibly lucky that I was able to get this job, but I do not know how long I can keep up the balance between work and...

hi everyone,

I will be applying to optometry schools this coming summer (SUNY is my top choice; i am also applying to PCO, New England College of Optometry, and MCPHS). I did a lot of shadowing over this past summer, in different Optometry settings (about 100 hours), as well as volunteered at a hospital. However, I have not done any undergraduate research. Best Schools for Low GPA, possibly high OAT?

Hi everyone.

So I am hoping to apply to optometry school for F2013, however I have a low GPA (2.9) and a even lower major GPA (2.5 Chemistry major GPA). But I do go to a good school (ranked in the top 20s) with zero grade inflation unfortunately.

I haven't taken the OAT yet, but I plan on reconsidering applying if I cannot do very well on the OAT (I generally do standardized tests well), so let's say for fun that I have an above average OAT.

Hi guys,
I'm actually a "silent reader". I've only posted once, earlier this year when I was literally panicking because I realized my GPA was so so so bad, and I thought my optometry dreams were over...hahhh You guys actually helped me gain a bit more confidence, so I thank you for that!

I am a Canadian student, and I applied to Waterloo and UC Berkeley this year. I'm pretty torn now because originally my first choice was Waterloo because the tuition is so much less (60K vs 250 K), but after vising both campuses/students/faculty for the interview, I really fell in love with UCBSO. The school atmosphere was so friendly and I feel the clinical exposure is better. Does it matter where you get your OD? Have any other Canadian students have to make the choice between Waterloo vs...

Do you think majoring in sociology or health science or even another BA like political science or anthropology would look good for optometry school in the future? I know it is not your typical, math major, biology or even chemistry major, but it still is something I am interested in. How bad would it look when future grad schools, professional schools or employers look at it?

ICO vs SUNY?

I just got accepted to SUNY today, and already have been accepted at ICO and reserved a spot. I now have to make a difficult decision between the two. Cost wise they are comparable because I am out of state for both. I did receive a scholarship at ICO covering the cost of housing living in their residential hall. Education-wise they are both amazing schools. I am interested in doing a residency, does anyone have any thoughts about which school would better support me in achieving that goal?...

I would really like to hear your brutally honest opinions. I have been pondering this for months already if I should apply for the fall 2017 at NOVA. I have confirmed with them that they are still considering candidates for interviews until the end of april.

I have not taken the OAT's yet and this would be my first time. I haven't even got a chance to take a practice test yet. I am seriously considering taking the exam in around March 20th and sending in my application and everything to...

I am applying this summer to about 7 schools. Here are my stats: (bad I know)

GPA: 3.0
Science : 2.8
Non Sci: 3.23
OAT: 300 (I plan on taking 1 more time before applications come out)

I have 3,320 hours working in an optometric technician as of right now (not including full time this summer) Ive had a full time job as a doctor technician since I was 16 and have acquired a lot of optometric skills already and can cut and grind lenses as an optician.

My optomcas application was verified a week ago and most of the schools emailed me a couple days ago telling they just received my application. NECO just invited me for an interview which I will be going to in March. I'm just nervous because it's the only interview I've received so far out of 6 and I kind of want to have a backup if I'm wait listed by NECO (by the way what are your chances of getting in if you get an interview?). Therefore based on my stats what do you think my chances are...

Hi guys,

So I'm in 3rd year undergrad right now and summer is coming up. I have jobshadowed at various practices before however never got a legitimate job at any of then. I am wondering what else I can do this summer to help with my application as my GPA is not good. Jobshadowing is good but it gets kinda old after while! Has anyone heard anything back for C/O 2021 in regards to Navy HPSP (specifically Optometry)? Boards are 'supposed to' convene on a monthly basis unless not enough applications have been accumulated (to my understanding) and mine has been at boards since the first week of Nov. 16.

Hello, I was just wondering does the optometry school application ask wether the applicant has had any institutional actions (alcohol write ups, etc.) or not? Or do they request this information from the undergrad institution? Thanks
