I recently got Waitlisted for WesternU's optometry program.
I was just wondering if anyone knew the chances of getting off that list? I'm just really worried because I'm not sure it not being ranked is a good or bad thing.

Please let me know!

Hey everyone,

I was recently invited for an interview at NECO. I was wondering if anyone has interviewed there and what the process was like. More importantly, I'd like to hear from current students or anyone from the Boston area. What did you like most about NECO? And is the cost of living too high when it comes to repaying debt after optometry school? Just looking for some input on the city and school as i'm from Chicago.

Hi everyone! Just wanted some opinions. I just submitted my application tonight and I know it's super late in the cycle considering my stats. So here they are:

Non-science GPA: 3.22
Science GPA: 2.7
OAT TS: 280
OAT AA: 290

I've shadowed an optometrist over 50 hours and am currently shadowing as well. I feel I have a strong personal statement and I'm really passionate about the field of Optometry. I've volunteered in a few places and I'm Vice President of the Pre-Optometry club. I am...

Hi everyone! I applied very late into the cycle (02/14/17), but I have gotten invitations to interview from NECO & WesternU.

I was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as me or know of anyone who applied this late and still got in?

Thanks!

Hi, I'll be shadowing a doctor for the first time tomorrow and I am extremely nervous.

It'll be about 6 hours long and I have no clue what I'm supposed to be doing or saying for that time! I was told to ask questions but I'm not sure what to ask and how I'll be able to keep asking questions for 6 hours.

Someone suggested I bring a notebook to take notes in. But I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be taking notes on??

Please give me advice!! I'm very, very nervous.

Private vs. Public Schools

Specifically, I am debating between AZCOPT and UHCO. UHCO will end up being about $65-70k cheaper over the four years due to in state tuition. In general, most public schools will be much cheaper than private if a student is paying in state tuition. I am just looking for some insights on the the pros and cons of public schools vs. private schools in general. It seems like most of the optometry schools will be able to give a good education. Is there a justification for spending the extra...

I feel like this is one of those hidden programs, so I wanted to answer any questions for anyone who has interest in this.

Importance of Optometry Specific Extra Curriculars?

$

So lets say someone has a high GPA, good OAT score, and 25+ hours of optometry shadowing hours plus solid extra curriculars such as working as a TA, research lab, and multiple volunteering positions in the community. Would extracurriculars specific to optometry in addition to shadowing be necessary to gain an accceptance? Or is shadowing enough to show that you have experience seeing what the field is like?

Is human physiology a requirement for getting into optometry schools these days? Or can one get in if they have the rest of the required and recommended classes? (Basic sciences, microbio/Lab, Anatomy/Lab, social sciences, biochem, psychology, statistics, etc)

NECO vs SCCO

Hi everyone, I was recently accepted to SCCO and have been holding a seat at NECO since November. I wanted to see if anyone had any advice or insight into each of these schools. I'm originally from the East Coast so NECO is closer to home, but that isn't a huge factor for me. The tuition is approximately the same (SCCO costs ~41k/year vs NECO costs ~40k/year) and the cost of living is also more or less the same. Some of my notes/points of difference (especially for anyone who may also be...

I am looking at courses to take next fall and I am trying to see which one would better prepare me for coursework in optometry. One course is neuroscience and the other is endocrinology. I was wondering if anyone that was in optometry school or is currently in optometry school could tell me which would be more beneficial. Thanks!

Hey guys,
I was put on the waitlist for MCPHS optometry without an interview, and I still haven't heard back from them. I was just wondering if anyone has had any updates after being waitlisted with them. How long did you wait for them to get back to you?

Hello friends,

I need some advice because I really don't know where to turn. I've interviewed at PCO and have more at SCCO, SUNY, and Puerto Rico in the next couple of weeks. I don't know which school to pick, however! On the one hand, SUNY is a terrific school and will make me a well-established doctor with connections. SCCO is a good school too but in a beautiful location... and Puerto Rico would bring me back to my Latino roots and I hear ODs that graduate from there obtain terrific...

Immunology Prerequisite Suggestions for UCBSO

$

I waited until I was accepted to Berkeley to take immunology since none of the other schools I applied to required it. Does anyone have suggestions of campuses/professors to take it with? I live in Oakland (right near Berkeley) so I can enroll for the in person extension course or online courses, but they are pretty pricey, almost $1000. Any suggestions? I don't mind driving a bit too if it brings down the cost. Campus or professor suggestions would be more than welcome!

Two questions regarding application process

Hello all,

I am a non-traditional student who is applying next year (June or July 2017).

This is second time attempt after my first attempt when I graduated in university in 2012. I took OAT in 2013 but due to my family circumstances, I had to pause my future goal and work. After working for 3 years, my family stabilized and now I am trying again to get into one of the optometry schools. I am planning to take my OAT on first week of April and maybe one more after completing summer...

Hello. I am seriously considering med school or optometry but I am looking for advice and others in a similar situation. I currently work at NASA, I have an aerospace engineering degree from the University of Texas. My GPA was not the best, 3.1.

The day before I was to go to college in 2009 I found out that I had trigeminal schwannoma. I withdrew from college, had two surgeries to remove the tumor, and returned to college the next semester....

Hello everyone! I am currently an undergraduate and I should be expecting to graduate in Fall of 2018. I recently just went on a tour at ICO while I was in Chicago. The admissions office suggested that I apply during Summer 2018, as well as make sure I take my OAT by then. I have yet to complete all of the prerequisite courses needed but here is where I currently stand and what I plan on taking over the next year.

Completed Prerequisites:
-Anatomy & Physiology
-General Biology I
-Calculus...
