Midwestern - IL vs. UMSL vs. Indiana

So I've been accepted to all 3 and I am having a hard time deciding between them. Mainly it is between Missouri and Midwestern. I live driving distance from Midwestern so I wouldn't even have to move, and I do have confidence in the program there. I am not worried about it's accreditation.

I loved UMSL though and can really see myself succeeding there. Their clinic experience is great due to their location. If convenience/distance wasn't an issue, it would be UMSL in a heart beat, but...

Ease of getting into optometry school

Why is it so easy to get into optometry school? The gpa requirements are pathetic, most schools entering classes have gpas from 3.0-3.4. The OAT is even more pathetic, I'm surprised that there are people who manage to score below 350 on it, let alone those that barely manage 300. How do these people even manage to continue through optometry school and become optometrists after?

Compare this to any other profession, medicine and dentistry, heck even pharmacy all have much tougher...

Hello everyone!

I am the first in my family to go to college, so I know very little about applying to graduate programs and the sort. Can you guys critique my OAT and GPA and tell me if you think I have a chance of getting into a school? Thank you.

QR: 310 (57.0%)
RC: 350 (75.2%)
Bio: 360 (86.8%)
GChem: 400 (100%) (no idea how this happened...)
Ochem: 320 (68.6%)
Physics: 320 (81.5%)

TS: 350 (87.1%)
AA: 340 (84.1%)

My college GPA is a 3.220 and I am a physiology major....

Honest chances of me getting into optometry school?

Budget for optometry school

Hey everyone,

I'm starting my first year at Salus this coming fall and I was wondering if any current students (Salus or not) could give me an idea about what your budget is like....I, along with my family, are trying to get a good idea about how much money I will be spending on things other than tuition and housing....like food and just miscellaneous spending money (not that I will have that much free time). Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hello all,

I'm new to the forums, so I do apologize in advance if a similar thread has been posted. I applied to ICO, WU, SCCO, SCO, and UCB this cycle but got rejected to all schools. I did have a handful of pre-requisites (physics, ochem biochem) still in progress, I expect to have them finished by fall '16.

I'm posting because I received an email from ICO saying that they have reviewed my application again for a second time after and wanted me to fill out their secondary application...

Basically, I applied to UMSL very, very late (on optomcas deadline, scores received on the very last day possible 2/15) and not too surprisingly did not receive an interview. I assume most spots were likely filled and the remaining few are given to stronger applicants. I have recently been accepted at PCO and have another interview scheduled. For various personal reasons, I am considering forfeiting my seat and reapplying to UMSL next cycle.

I was wondering if those of you accepted at UMSL...

I'm a non traditional student, just turned 30. For the past 4 years I've been a speech therapist. I graduated undergrad with a degree in speech and hearing sciences with a 2.94 gpa. The science classes I did take were related to my major (I.e. Bioacoustics which is physics, neuroanatomy, speech and hearing science). I have very few prerequistes completed and those that are are now expired so I will have to retake them. My masters gpa was only a 3.4. I have a c in one of my clinical...

Should I even bother trying?

Hey Everyone,

I am writing my OAT in July and I want to be really prepared for this test. It's basically do or die for me. I was hoping if anyone has the OAT destroyer books and they are willing to sell it I would really appreciate it. I was on the OAT destroyer website and was gonna buy the OAT destroyer supreme pack and it is 320 USD, which is $420 CDN. If anyone has the OAT Destroyer on Orgo, GChem, Bio, Math (Math Destroyer), and Physics I am willing to buy it.

Hello,

I am getting ready to apply schools this July once the application opens up (hoping that I get accepted to be the incoming class of Fall 2018). What can I/should I be doing at this very moment? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

-I've already begun studying for my OATs so that I can take them either July or August

-Currently work as a tech for an office with 2 doctors (~6 months), but I have experiences shadowing other doctors (~30-40 hours) , volunteering with VOSH, as well as...

Hi all, I am planning to apply for Optometry school, one of the biggest blemish on my application is that i've only been a full time student 1 year out of the multiple years i've been in school. My GPA is pretty solid, but i'm worried that schools will underlook me, how concerned should I be, if anyone has any similar stories, that would be great

My optomcas application was verified a week ago and most of the schools emailed me a couple days ago telling they just received my application. NECO just invited me for an interview which I will be going to in March. I'm just nervous because it's the only interview I've received so far out of 6 and I kind of want to have a backup if I'm wait listed by NECO (by the way what are your chances of getting in if you get an interview?). Therefore based on my stats what do you think my chances are...

Current Education level: Graduated from UW Honours Science, Minor in Biology
OAT score: TS: 400/AA: 380
GPA: 84.5%
Optometry Experience: Job shadowed an optometrist for 200+ hours / Job shadowed an optician for 60+ hours / Performed multiple eye screening and some exams to willing patients
EC: Intramural Basketball (4 years), Intramural Soccer (1 year), Volunteering in 3 campus clubs, couple more...

This is my first time posting here so not sure if this is how I'm supposed to do it but...

I just retook the first part of my three-series organic chemistry class (I ended up with a C in the class but it was curved/scaled HEAVILY.), and am currently taking the second part. I'm worried that I don't know the first part enough to do well in the second. What's a good way to consolidate the previous information??
