Prerequisites - after application + community college courses

Hi, I'm currently an undergraduate student. I decided going down the optometry path pretty late, so I still have some prereqs to fulfill after graduating this May. I hope to finish to apply for Fall 2019. I see that for most of the schools that you do not need to have the prerequisites fulfilled by application time. It says it's fine as long as you have them done before enrolling. Does it not hurt my chances if I don't have, let's say a course like biochem or microbiology, by time of...

Hi guys. I am currently a 3rd year in Mount Royal University doing my health science and will graduate a semester late. I don't have that great of a GPA but I really am trying to become an optometrist. I volunteer with my university and other stuff going on to improve my extracurricular and hopefully get to shadow an optometrist soon. I'm planning on doing my OATs this summer.

I can't seem to find any current threads about SCCO interviews that aren't from 2006. Can anyone give me more information about SCCO's interview day?

How many people interview you?

I know that the first qualifying round is academic and the second qualifying round is more personal, so will they still ask me academic questions about my grades?

What kinds of questions should I prepare for? Will there be ethical situations I have to respond to?

Letters of recommendation

Hello,

So for the letters of recommendation, most schools recommend 3 from the following:

Optometrist
Academic professor
Employer

The first two are quite obvious in ways that speaks on your behalf as a student and shows that you have a good understanding of what the profession is like. I know I will have those two letters solid by the time I apply during the fall.

For the third, I do have a few good relationships with employers of the past and current. However, currently I am working in...

I was freaking out today because I was taking the OAT at 5 PM today. I was so nervous my hands were shaking. Through the exam, I had a bad feeling about it and thought I would have to take it again. But I got a better score than I thought I would get.

Hello everyone! I am planning on taking the OAT this summer and I am looking for some advice. Should I study using the OAT destroyer/other prep books first and then take the Kaplan online course? Or the other way around? Or do you think it does not matter? Thanks in advance!

I'm currently in my junior year of undergrad. My current GPA is 3.0, I think I can get it up to around 3.2 by the end of my degree. I have a ton of shadowing experience. To the point where I can interpret corneal tomography scans, take visual acuity, scribe, am learning how to refract, and am familiar with the ethical implications of being an Eye doctor. My dream school is uiw. Assuming I can get a 320-330 on my OAT. Do you think I will be able to get in?

why does canada only have 1 english optometry school?

i mean it seems a bit ridicilous for a country of this size to only have one english speaking school. Is it because they expect the rest to train elsewhere and come back? Or they enough influx of foreign trained ones?

Just curious... All other professional schools seem to have more than just 1 in the entire country.

I recently graduated with a bachelors of biology with a 3.5 accumulative GPA. I am working at an optometry clinic for 3 years now and I am currently doing vision therapy training. I took a gap year to work in the field and apply for school but I applied so late due to curtain circumstances. So I applied to the schools I wanted a week before the deadline. I currently attend UNLV and I am going to be taking a trip down to SoCal for a weekend in July. I was planning on attending SCCO's Summer Admissions Workshop during that time, but they actually moved the date of the workshop to the following weekend, and that is when I start my summer session class. I already requested the days off from work to go down to Cali, so I contacted SCCO's admissions office to schedule a campus tour and also an advising session with Dr. Monroe.

Hello, here is my stat:

330/330 OAT
3.0 GPA (C- on Orgo 1) - graduated in 2012.

Currently registered classes (for pre-req)
summer 1 - advanced human anat/phys (400lvl) OR Orgo 1 & Bio 1
summer 2 - Biochemistry

Plan for Fall - Retake all the 'C' classes

I am planning to apply as soon as I can when my summer 2 is over (7/28).

But my question is, should I retake 'C' classes first during summer sessions and take pre-reqs on fall? I feel like I should focus on raising my GPA first...

IAUPR is a school that I noticed receives little recognition on this site; however, it's also greatly praised amongst the optometrists I've shadowed. Between such a polarized perspective lies many questions and false ideas towards the school. So let me address them. And for any other students attending IAUPR, I encourage you to speak out!
