Application put on hold

I just submitted my application today. I applied to MCO, Indiana, Salus, OSU, Midwestern-Illinois, and ICO and I have already received an email from OSU that my application was put on hold because it was not as competitive. Just curious if anyone else has had this happened and if they were actually accepted after? Kinda starting to freak out. I just retook my OAT and got a 300 AA / 270 TS I have a 3.3 GPA and two years experience working at LensCrafters as an apprentice optician all well as...

Letters of recommendation

I am a bit confused on how the LORs work with optomcas. I was told by someone that the evaluators aren’t writing an actual letter, but filling out a questionnaire on optomcas. I have also seen people talking about an actual written letter. Could someone please clarify? Also, what would be the best way to go about this given that applications don’t open for a few months. Do I just let them know when it’ll open and get an email address from them?

Hi all, I was hoping I could get some help from anyone who had already applied to Salus University's Regular/Scholars program.

I'm going into my junior year and I'm a bit torn between whether or not I need to take Calc. 2. I was wondering if those who had gotten into Salus's Regular/Scholars program took Calc. 2 or they just took Calc. 1 and the rest of the recommended pre-reqs?

Car Payments During OD School

I'm applying this summer, so OD school is about a year-and-a-half away. My current car is an 03 Volkswagen Passat, with 187k miles and needs some minor repairs that add up to $1500. Even if I repair it, I'm not sure that it will last another two or three years afterwards. I'm considering getting a used car to replace it. Right now, I use the car for work and commute about a half hour each day.

Hi Guys, I joined this forum a year ago but was hesitant to make any posts. I am applying to optometry school for this upcoming cycle. My overall GPA is 3.2 and science GPA is 3.0. I am currently studying for OAT and will take it in August. I also have an upward grade trend for the past five semesters. Optometry Shadowing Letter of Recommendation

I plan on applying this summer for admission in Fall 2018. I shadowed for a total of 16 hours last summer (2 days each at two different private practices). What are your experiences in getting a letter of recommendation from an optometrist? Is is bad to ask for a letter if I'm not working at the office and only shadow a couple times? I'm returning to the same office as last summer, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the letter. Any comments/thoughts are appreciated!

Admission without Anatomy and Physiology (optometry)

Hello everyone!

I recently graduated in December with a Biology degree but never took any anatomy and/or physiology classes - they weren't required to take to graduate. After graduating I decided I would look into Optometry and I love it, but I noticed most of the schools require those two classes. Has anyone gotten into optometry school without taking these classes? and if so where?

I am currently a junior with a 2.9 GPA (2.5 science). I am taking a year off and applying next cycle after my senior year. I haven't taken the OAT yet, but I am next summer and will be taking the kaplan class hoping to get above average score. I have shadowing experience and optician experience. If i work really hard my senior year and 4.0 for both the semesters i will graduate with a 3.17 gpa. So I would like to hear some advice about what I should do entering my senior year?

Has anyone applied to opt school with more than five missing prereqs (but assuming you'll finish them before optometry school starts)?
I plan on applying this fall for next year but I still have about 5 classes left to take. I'll be on a quarter system so I'm 1000% sure I'll have it done before spring of next year...

Hi, I'm a junior student at UT Austin. I'm graduating with a BSA in Biology, with a Business Foundations Program Certificate and a Pre-Health Professions Certificate. My gpa is a 3.35 with around a 3.1 science GPA. I recently took my OAT and I got a 340 Total, 330 Science. I have shadowing and research experience, as well as community service and being a president of an organization. What are my chances of getting into UHCO and UIW with these stats? So I've shadowed at a variety of different optometry settings (OD/OMD, group practices, commercial), but I think my optometrists back at home know me the best. I go to a group practice, and I've shadowed for all of them there. Is it a good idea to have both my optometrist letters come from the same practice?

Merely one year ago I was logging into Student Doctor Forum to find ANY info I could on IAUPR because with my lower OAT and lower GPA I was looking at a short list of possible acceptances.

Hello! I am a general science major that had just graduated a few days ago. I just got my final grades back and noticed that I failed Microbiology with a D. Would Optometry schools accept if I retake the course at a community college since I am not able to retake it at my university?

Small additional question: I have not taken the OATs or participated in any shadowing yet, how much shadowing should I do and what is a good score for a student with a GPA of 3.2?

I'm looking to apply to schools in California, and the three schools here only recommend a letter from a professor (though I do understand that it would be ideal to have a letter from a professor).
